Executive Director

The Victoria Symphony invites nominations and applications for the position of Executive Director.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the Victoria Symphony, including overseeing and executing the strategic plan and annual objectives, preparing budgets and managing the finances of the Symphony. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with the Music Director to implement the artistic vision for the Symphony, developing and nurturing positive and effective working relationships with the Board, staff, musicians, volunteers and other arts organizations. Exercising leadership in fundraising for the Symphony is a key responsibility, including research and planning, grant preparation, government relations, donor cultivation and planned giving.

Supervising a staff which carries responsibility for development, sponsorship, marketing, box office, administration, finance, orchestra liaison and artistic administration, the Executive Director will lead a committed team that works co-operatively to achieve the Symphony’s goals.

The successful candidate will be a strong and visionary leader, with a track record of successful senior administration, preferably in an arts organization, demonstrated success in financial management and fund raising, and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with the Music Director, the Board of Directors and other arts organizations; adopt a creative and open approach to problem solving in a complex environment; exhibit the ability to inspire a dedicated staff; and be committed to the Victoria Symphony’s mission to foster artistic excellence with fiscal responsibility.
