Mozart Festival 2008

The Mozart Festival celebrates the extraordinary genius of Mozart and his contemporaries. This exciting ten day festival includes mainstage orchestral concerts and intimate chamber music performances. This year three special events have been added, a screening of the documentary film In Search of Mozart and a children’s performance of The Magic Flute.

Join us for this beautiful opening night concert as internationally acclaimed pianist Jon Kimura Parker takes the take with Music Director Tania Miller for the first time. This concert combines the spirited and simple style of Mozart with the complexity and power of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 5. A great concert to start the festival!

Ian Parker joins Maestra Tania Miller for this second orchestral concert of the festival. Magnetic, easy-going and delightfully articulate, Vancouver vative Ian Parker captivates audiences wherever he goes. In this performance he will play Brahm’s Piano Concerto no. 2. This grand piece combines lilting smooth melodies with passionate passages guaranteed to move, delight and leave audiences wanting more!

Mozart Concerto for Three Pianos in F
Beethoven Symphony No. 7

A trio of Parkers! Ian, James and Edward Parker will all feature in this closing concert of the festival. Together for the first time in 20 years they will perform Mozart’s popular Concerto for Three pianos. In 2007, Ian and James, along with Jon Kimura Parker received a Juno nomination for their recording of this concerto. Appropriately, this piece was commissioned by a mother and two daughters and so the spirit of family will be perpetuated in this special performance.

The Gryphon Trio has been delighting audiences around the globe for the last 15 years. Their celebrated recordings include works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Lalo, and Shostakovich. With a strong commitment to expanding the piano trio repertoire, the Trio has commissioned and premiered over 40 works.

The Magic Flute, Children’s Concert with The Victoria Music Corner Ensemble

Two friends set out on an exciting quest to the Temple of Wisdom where they brave fire and water to rescue a princess. Children participate every step of the way through movement, song, riddles and games. Live music adapted from Mozart's original opera is performed by the characters throughout. Supported by The City of Victoria
