Instrument Petting Zoo
vsNEW, Young Composer's Workshop
vsYOUTH, Youth Volunteer group
This popular hands-on activity gives children the opportunity to try a variety of different instruments with guidance from experienced vsYOUTH volunteers. A visit to an Instrument Petting Zoo is sure to give your child a memorable experience and perhaps spark a new interest in music.
An innovative, 6 month program where young composers have the opportunity to work with the Victoria Symphony resident composer and a dedicated ensemble of Victoria Symphony musicians. In it's third year, this program has already seen some prize winning pieces of music created by young, talented composers.
In 2008, vsNEW saw 6 young composers between the age of 13 and 20 write a variety of different pieces for the following instruments and VS musicians, Tori Lindsay, violin, Catherine Carignan, bassoon and Darren Buhr, Double Bass.
After the success of the first program in 2007, many of our composers were awarded prizes and highly commended awards in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival and other BC and nation-wide competitions.
vsNEW runs from October to March, each workshop is 2 ½ hours on Sunday afternoons.
A confirmed schedule for this year's program will be available shortly.
