The Victoria Symphony Education Concerts are designed to be a fun, exciting introduction to the symphony for elementary school students. Traditionally, we have offered Education Concerts to students in grades four to seven, reaching approximately 5000 students each season. This year, we are excited to expand our programming to offer concerts for Kindergarten to grade three students as well.
This years concert is titled, 'Big Bongo'. Led by Maestra Tania Miller, the Victoria Symphony's percussion players are let loose in this energetic, fun and exciting concert. The program includes music from all around the world.
The Victoria Symphony education Concerts will be taking place from January 30 to February 1 2008, at the University of Victoria Auditorium, February 11 at the Cowichan Theatre. Teachers in the public school system should contact their school board for booking information. Independent schools and homeschools may book directly through the University of Victoria Box office (250)721-8480.

This program is currently being revised. A new and improved version will be up and running shortly!
Come and experience a unique 'behind the scenes' view of the Victoria Symphony. We are now offering music students and teachers the opportunity to attend an open rehearsal throughout the Symphony's season. Students will gain insight into how a Victoria Symphony concert is put together and how communication between the musicians and the conductor is vital to a successful performance.

vsNEW is a brand new initiative of the Victoria Symphony.
Coordinated by resident composers Anna Höstman and Tobin Stokes,
vsNEW will involve 6 young composers from Victoria. Over 6 months
these composers will work with three Victoria Symphony musicians
and their teachers to produce new compositions. Young composers will learn about
writing for an ensemble and for instruments which they may not
otherwise have access to. This season's ensemble includes Victoria Lindsay (violin), Catherine Carignan (bassoon) and Darren Buhr (double bass).
The students will be encouraged to enter their finished works into
the composition section of the Greater Victoria Performing Arts
Festival 2007 and may even be featured in future Symphony concerts.
The Victoria Symphony is proud to support young artists and hope
that this program will encourage more new explorations into music.
